war bisher eine lange, lehrreiche und sehr bereichernde Arbeitserfahrung. Zwischenzeitlich und ergänzend zu unserem Bildarchiv nahmen wir viele neue Bilder auf, die sich nun nahtlos in die fotografische Reise zu den Jahreszeiten einfügen.

Now and again we can see well beyond the borders of Austria from the peaks of our mountains as a result of the clear and fresh air. Whether it be when doing sports or simply gazing into the horizon. As the year comes to an end, it is good to get a clear picture of the future.

At Christmas time, a winter landscape covered in fresh snow is particularly delightful. The very first snowfall shapes the landscape. Observing the snow also makes me aware of another change, which cannot be overlooked. The last winters in these valleys were very short. For some of my winter shots, I therefore climb hundreds of meters to get higher. The grinding-crunching sound of the hard-frozen snow beneath my feet takes me back to my youth. In the lowlands the winter has not yet relinquished the land. White layers of ice now characterise the panorama where autumn had once left behind dark, secretive waters. Weaving a path through the mist and layers of fog, I make my way to the frosty highlights Nature has to offer.

Wir kennen den Dezember auch als Christmonat oder Julmond, ein alter deutscher Name für die Feier der Wintersonnwende. Der allseits ersehnte Schneefall im Dezember ist in den Tälern rar geworden. Das hat allerdings auch astronomische Gründe. Ausgerechnet die Polarnächte ermöglichen es, dass zur Weihnachtszeit milde Luft aus dem Atlantikraum zu uns strömt. In meinem Bildarchiv finde ich unter anderem Aufnahmen vom Neusiedler See, der eine dicke Eisdecke trägt, oder vom Burggarten in Wien mit dem Palmenhaus im Neuschnee. Als ich diese Aufnahmen machte, konnte ich nicht erahnen, dass die Bilder großzügige Weihnachtsgeschenke vom Winter an den Fotografen sind.

Wir schreiben das Jahr 2023, künstliche Intelligenz und virtuelle Realitäten sind allgegenwärtig. Ohne Frage, diese Möglichkeiten sind längst auch Behelfe in der professionellen Fotografie und im Design. Aber wir werden uns auch künftig der Landschaftsfotografie widmen. Warum wir das tun, ist einfach erklärt: Seit Millionen von Jahren formen und prägen natürliche Kräfte die Erde und damit auch unser Dasein. So betrachten wir die Natur als Kunstwerk, als ein Vermächtnis der Schöpfung an das Leben. Spring, summer, autumn and winter – these very words cast up images in our minds and pictures and images tell stories. On my journey through the seasons, I am accompanied by moving thoughts – the only constant thing is change – the landscape transitions into inconceivable dimensions, frequently in the space of a breath. On my search for motifs in Austrian cultural and natural landscapes, I always feel as if I miss so many moments. But it is precisely these lost moments and my unsated curiosity which spurn me on to continue and take me to those places where Nature grants us an insight into her great power and beauty. Der November ist vielleicht der beste Indikator dafür, wie sehr sich das Weltklima verändert hat. Einst war der Monat als düster und lebensfeindlich im Verruf. Klimabedingt wurde der November bereits als Wintermonat eingestuft. Auch heute noch fallen die Temperaturen bis zu 10 Grad, aber zwischenzeitlich darf der November getrost zu den Herbstmonaten gezählt werden. Die Schönheit liegt natürlich im Auge des Betrachters und so gehe ich mit Kamera und Stativ hinaus, um mich den melancholischen Stimmungen und Farbnuancen in der Natur zu widmen. A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY IN THE AUTUMN Warm sunlight penetrates the yellow-red brown canopy of leaves in the deciduous forest. The early fog begins to lift and rays of light tumble upon the moss-covered ground. This perfect, dreamy autumnal picture inspires numerous new ideas and compositions. With these ideas in mind, I go outside. The autumn beckons me to embark on extended photo trips. From the vineyards of the Pannonian Plains to the meltwater lakes in high Alpine locations, there are a multitude of autumnal motifs awaiting discovery; more than we could ever imagine. Our forebears already knew that autumn was the best time to offer up thanks for a rich harvest. In late autumn, my digital memory stores are already completely full, but I cannot stop. Yesterday the landscape was rich in colour. Tomorrow it might already be covered in frost or snow.
